Back from sabbatical and back into teaching.
This year, I’m incorporating a lot of learning activities into the lecture section of my upper division course in ecological genetics. Some of this is motivated by my reading of Magdalene Lampert’s Teaching Problems and the Problems of Teaching. Recently, it’s taken a lot of time. However, I’m taking some advice from Small Pond Science and working towards being more efficient with my teaching. On Terry’s advice, I just ordered Never Work Harder than Your Students, by Robyn Jackson.
Stephanie Porter and I are working on another manuscript. She just hired a nanny, so will be back to working 50% time! I’m excited to be making progress on this really cool manuscript on co-determination of holobiont traits and symbiont conflicts over traits. We’ll be working with Erol Akcay on a new paper, as well. And, Kim LaPierre and I are starting work on a manuscript based on our recent grant proposal, describing functional diversity within the legume “functional group”.
